Can pornography really become an addiction? Addiction exists, I see it every day in the people who come to Dale Una Vuelta, our association. And it is one of the worst addictions, because it is one of the quietest.

It is an addiction that occurs in privacy and that apparently does not affect a person's daily life. But it's not like that, is it?

I usually say that it is the perfect addiction because it affects the whole person, because it brings with it a pleasure -sexual pleasure, one of the most intense-, because it has repercussions on the entire psychology of the affected person and because to all that is added the irresistible force of the internet. It catches you without realizing it, which is why I like to say that a little porn is a lot. Addiction to porn is one of the worst because it affects one of the best things in life such as the capacity for affection, to be with other people, for love in short. What are the effects of addiction to pornography? Pornography produces zombies, corpses that do not leave a smell but are true walking ghosts. It is an addiction that isolates a lot, a person with a strong addiction to pornography is increasingly estranged from his partner, his family, society ...It causes a tremendous loneliness. The social distance between a man addicted to porn and his partner is a thousand times greater than that required during the coronavirus pandemic, is watching pornography constantly affecting the brain? Yes, there are many studies that affirm this. In the last 15 years the investigations of neurobiologists with brain scans have multiplied to study the true influence of the addiction to pornography. Yes, there are autonomous communities and municipalities with campaigns against the consumption of pornography among adolescents, warning about the risks that it entails. But I have not yet heard almost any prominent politician speak on this issue. I think it is very important to raise awareness in society about the damage caused by sugars, excess fat or free play, which is very dangerous and with many consequences. But I have hardly heard any words about pornography yet. I think we should start there. The porn industry speaks more and more of healthy pornography or feminist pornography.Is there or is it a cosmetic operation? I believe that it is a pure marketing operation. The goal is usually to get more women to consume pornography. And they are getting it, more and more women are watching pornography. But the majority consumption is still male. What is the profile of the porn addict who comes to your association?

They are usually men between the ages of 25 and 40 who have been consuming pornography for 10, 15, 20 years. There comes a time when they do not know what to do, because that consumption of pornography is seriously affecting their lives, and they write to us exhausted, sunk, tired of their life. In the end, you can say that porn is cool, but it's more cool to quit. What are the signs that may indicate to a parent that their child is starting to consume pornography

One of the main things is to be attentive to how your children consume technology. If you have a mobile or tablet and become increasingly interested in technology, if you are too closed in on it, if you spend hours in your room or spend a lot of time in the bathroom, you have to be alert, because those are the typical signs. If they start to have a desire for novelty and excessive curiosity, if they depend more and more on technology, if they like to be alone more and more ... All that should be taken into account. Another sign is that they begin to perform less in school or in the educational center. But it is also convenient to observe the character of the son: if he is introverted or extroverted, if he has a desire for notoriety or not ... There are aspects of character that can be signs. It is important for parents to talk to their children about sexuality.And for that you have to talk to them about their Fortnite games, for example. It is something as simple as asking them about their things, because important conversations are preceded by thousands of inconsequential or unimportant conversations. Confidence works day by day, it does not come suddenly. It can be used for example to have conversations with the children in the car. The most important thing, the first step, according to the experts and all the people I have met in these years, is to talk to someone you trust, that is, tell about it. Many people thank us simply because our association exists, for being able to tell about their situation. The consumption of pornography is done in private, and many people are especially ashamed to admit that they see it or that they have become addicted to it. Telling it, speaking it, is the first step, the most important step.
