Expo 2020 Dubai witnesses the launch of the Giro d'Italia race today

Today, the Giro d'Italia race will be held in Dubai, during which riders will run a short distance race at the Expo 2020 Dubai site.


This event is organized with the support of the "Made in Italy" brand, the Dubai Sports Council, Expo 2020 Dubai and "RCS Sport", as part of the main events of the Dubai Fitness Challenge initiative, which runs until November 27, where the "Course of Italy" is the first competition As a professional athlete at Expo 2020, the race, which will start from the Italian Pavilion, will see participating riders complete 30 laps on a 2.1 km circuit around the site of the international event.


Elia Viviani, the cycling star, who won the purple jersey in the points ranking in the latest edition of “Corsa Rosa” and won nine major races, described the experience of the participation of 33,000 cyclists during the “Dubai Cycling Challenge” that extended for a distance of 14 kilometers on Sheikh Road. For his part, Paolo Glicenti, Commissioner-General of the Italy Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, said that sport is a global language, and today we are proud of the launch of the “Tour of Italy” in Dubai. New places, and the best place to discover is the Expo pavilions, especially the Italian pavilion, as it represents a milestone. This global event will also be broadcast live to two hundred countries around the world.


The race will witness the participation of a number of the most prominent riders in the world, including Egan Bernal, the Giro d'Italia champion in 2021 and the yellow jersey holder in the Tour de France in 2019, Peter Sagan, the three-time UCI road race champion, and Elia Viviani, the purple jersey winner in the 2019 Tour de France. The points ranking in the last edition of the "Corsa Rosa", crowned with nine major races, and the two-time world champion, Filippo Gana, who previously won six stages of the Tour of Italy as well.
