Resident in the Jura, a young man of 22 years was sentenced this Wednesday by the criminal court of Annecy (Haute-Savoie).

He was sentenced to three years in prison with continued detention, reports France Bleu Pays de Savoie.

On October 26, the defendant was arrested at the Saint-Martin-Bellevue tollgate.

Customs officers then found 45 kg of cannabis resin in his vehicle, registered in Switzerland.

The cannabis resin bars were wrapped in blue plastic, oiled to prevent DNA fingerprinting.

Questioned by investigators, the young man first presented himself as a fake Swiss footballer returning from vacation and then claimed to be back from Morocco.

He eventually admitted that he had served as a "driver" in order to support his parents and five siblings.
