The Emirates Program for Research on Rain Enhancement Science of the National Center of Meteorology held a discussion session entitled “Innovative Rain Enhancement Solutions to Achieve Water Security”, as part of its participation in the 26th Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, hosted by the Scottish city of Glasgow from 31 October to November 12, 2021.

During the session, the program highlighted the progress made by the UAE in the field of rain enhancement from the research and practical sides, and the innovative techniques supported by the Emirates Program for Research in Rain Enhancement Science in this field and its future plans. The program grant, addressing the history of rain seeding in the UAE, and highlighting the pivotal role that the program played in promoting research, development and innovation in this field.

The Director General of the National Center of Meteorology and President of the Asian Meteorological Union, Dr. Abdullah Ahmed Al-Mandoos, said: “We are pleased to participate in this important international event that highlights the issue of climate change and the need to take practical steps to reduce its repercussions by all countries and governments. The participation of the center’s delegation comes To introduce the UAE’s achievements in the field of rain enhancement and its leading position as a global center and main destination for action in order to come up with practical solutions based on scientific and well-studied foundations for pivotal issues such as climate change, water security and sustainability.”

He added: “The team of the center participating in the conference highlights the contributions made by rain seeding operations to ensure water security as one of the main issues that have been affected by the repercussions of climate change, and the importance of developing research and science rain seeding and employing them to contribute to the sustainability of water resources, by playing a leading global role in Advancing this very important scientific field, the UAE affirms its commitment to seeking innovative solutions to the problem of water scarcity around the world.” For her part, the Director of the UAE Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science, and one of the main participants in the discussion session, Alia Al Mazrouei said:“The Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is a distinguished platform for discussing topics related to rain enhancement science, broadening the scope of the UAE Research Program for Rain Enhancement Sciences, and highlighting its achievements in advancing global research efforts in this field, as water shortage and the need to ensure its security are among the topics. Which requires concerted efforts to secure supportive, feasible and effective solutions based on modern technological development and using innovative techniques such as rain seeding, as an important supporter of other water sources.”

She added: "The discussion session provided a unique opportunity to shed light on the UAE Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science, which attaches special importance to new technologies and emerging innovations to advance development in rain enhancement science, and to highlight the UAE's leading role in this field and its relentless efforts to reduce water scarcity, which is one of the repercussions of change. global climate.

During the session, Al Mazrouei gave a presentation on the scientific and research achievements of the program and its contributions to achieving water security. The draw by employing the latest technologies for the benefit of future generations in the face of the threat of water scarcity. It also reviewed the developments in the fourth cycle of the program, whose grant projects will be announced in January of next year 2022.

During the session, the Director of the Emirates Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science focused on the pivotal role played by the program to advance global research efforts in the field of rain enhancement, explaining that the lack of water and the need to ensure its security have become issues that require concerted efforts to secure supportive, feasible and effective solutions based on modern technological development and using Innovative techniques such as seeding as an important supplement to other water sources.

Al Mazrouei explained to the attendees the role played by the Emirates Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science in building capacities worldwide, through empowering youth, and cooperating with universities, academic institutions and international research institutes.

The Director of Meteorology at the National Center of Meteorology, Dr. Muhammad Al-Abri, referred to the distinguished infrastructure owned by the Center for the implementation of cloud seeding operations, which is supported by the owners of advanced expertise, techniques and advanced means, which includes more than 100 meteorological stations and an integrated network of radars covering all parts of the country, and aircraft to carry out operations. Cloud seeding, in addition to a factory for the production of high quality cloud seeding torches.

The UAE Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science has achieved great success at the global level, which has contributed to emphasizing the UAE’s leading position in this scientific field, as the program has been an attractive destination for globally recognized research networks, and has succeeded in developing the process of transferring the necessary knowledge to ensure sustainable water resources in the countries of the world. at risk of dehydration.
