The Iraqi president regrets the clashes between security forces and demonstrators in Baghdad

On Friday evening, Iraqi President Barham Salih expressed his regret and rejection of "the clashes that occurred between the security forces and the demonstrators, and the scheduled investigation should be pursued and ensured that it does not recur."

Saleh said in a tweet on "Twitter" that "peaceful demonstration is a constitutionally guaranteed right, while he called on everyone to exercise restraint," according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

He continued, "Protecting public security is a national duty, and everyone must exercise restraint and put the national interest above all else."

For its part, the United Nations Mission in Iraq (UNAMI) called on all parties to exercise the utmost restraint.

The mission stated in a tweet to it on the Twitter platform that it followed (INA), "It expresses its regret for the escalation of violence and injuries that followed in Baghdad today, calling on all parties to exercise the utmost restraint, respect the right to peaceful protest, and that the demonstrations remain peaceful. ".

Earlier on Friday, Baghdad witnessed violent confrontations, during which security forces fired live bullets to prevent demonstrators from storming the "Green Zone", which includes government, parliament and foreign diplomatic missions.

On Friday, an Iraqi security source reported that a protester had died of his wounds during clashes in the Green Zone in central Baghdad.

The source said in an interview with Alsumaria News, "A demonstrator died of his wounds during the clashes that took place between the security forces and the protesters rejecting the election results, in the vicinity of the Green Zone in central Baghdad."

The confrontations left 125 wounded, 27 of whom were demonstrators and the rest were security personnel, according to Iraqi Ministry of Health figures.
