Eight camels and a llama were intercepted by Spanish police on Friday as they strolled through the streets of Madrid after escaping from a circus.

National police, who posted photos of the animals on Twitter, said the camels were spotted around 5 a.m. as they casually walked the streets of the Carabanchel neighborhood in the south of the Spanish capital.

The animals were safely escorted back to the nearby Quiros circus, to which they belong.

The circus denounced an act of sabotage and accused animal rights groups.
