November 05, 2021 Hospital admission rates are higher in countries with lower vaccination rates, WHO noted in Europe, recalling that measures such as testing, tracking, distancing and wearing masks are yet to be part of the "arsenal" of weapons against the virus. 



"We need to change our tactics, from reacting to the Covid-19 waves to preventing them from occurring in the first place," said the WHO director for Europe.



The number of new cases per day in the old continent has been increasing for almost six consecutive weeks and the number of new deaths per day has been growing for just over seven consecutive weeks, with approximately 250,000 cases and 3,600 deaths per day. The nation that has reported the most deaths in the past seven days is

Russia

(8,162 deaths), followed by

Ukraine

with 3,819 deaths and

Romania

with 3,100 deaths. A worrying situation also in Bulgaria, where Covid patients occupy 90% of the places in intensive care and from today surgical interventions and non-urgent hospitalizations have been suspended. In

Germany

, infections continue to grow, with 154 other deaths recorded in the last 24 hours, for a total of 96,346. In Austria reported the record of new cases since the beginning of the year and is considering new restrictions. 



The

Russia

recorded another 40,735 cases of Coronavirus, up from 40,217 the previous day.

In the past 24 hours, 1,192 deaths related to the pandemic have also been recorded, down slightly.

Since the beginning of the pandemic in Russia there have been 244,447 deaths and 8,714,595 infections.

Moscow has the highest number of new daily infections: 6,407.
