According to reports, the Office of the Attorney General of Quintana Roo State in Mexico stated that the shooting took place on a beach in Puerto Morelos, south of Cancun, when a standoff occurred between members of a drug-trafficking hostile group.
Two suspected gang members died and no other personnel were injured.
According to reports, this beach is close to two resorts, and resort guests fled to a safe area under the guidance of staff.
Tourists described a gunman who slowly approached the resort from the beach and opened fire.
The US Embassy in Mexico stated that they are investigating the shooting.
