A man was tried Wednesday in immediate appearance by the judicial court of Versailles (Yvelines), for "involuntary injuries with disability not exceeding three months with two aggravating circumstances".

Two days earlier, he had run over a baby in Poissy, while driving his car, after running a red light.

The four-month-old child was in a stroller and had been struck while his mother was on a pedestrian crossing, recalls 78 Actu.

The motorist had had a drink before hitting the road.

After the accident, he continued to drive despite repeated requests from his passenger to stop the vehicle.

He explained during the hearing that he returned to the scene of the collision a little later and saw the firefighters.

He then drank all night before going to the police station to denounce himself on Tuesday morning.

The baby is better

“We are here facing a succession of failures on his part.

The shock was direct.

He did not brake.

No trace was seen.

And he fled, leaving an infant on the road, ”said the public prosecutor.

Already convicted in the past for driving under the influence of alcohol, the defendant was this time sentenced to 18 months in prison.

His driver's license and car were confiscated.

He is not allowed to retake his license for a year.

The seriously injured baby is now out of danger.

He was thrown from his stroller in shock and taken in charge by police, who witnessed the scene.

The infant had been transferred to the Necker Hospital in Paris with a vital prognosis.

He has since returned home to his family.
