Social media users circulated what they claimed was a statement by the Egyptian Minister of Immigration stating that the Egyptian workforce is ready to compensate for any shortage of labor in the Gulf countries in the event that it decides to “boycott” Lebanon, against the background of statements by a Lebanese minister regarding the Yemen war that angered Saudi Arabia.

However, the Minister did not make any similar statement.

The publications include a picture of the Egyptian Minister of Immigration, Nabila Makram, and a statement attributed to her saying, "The Egyptian labor force, with all its experience, is ready to compensate for any labor shortage in the Gulf countries to develop the labor market after the boycott of Lebanon."

The publication received hundreds of interactions on social media, and angered the Lebanese, days after the outbreak of a diplomatic crisis between Lebanon and Saudi Arabia, against the background of statements by the Lebanese Minister of Information, George Kordahi.

However, the statements circulated by the Egyptian Minister of Immigration against the background of this crisis are unfounded, and they are fabricated.

It cannot be found on any credible website, or on the official pages of the Egyptian Ministry of Immigration.

AFP journalists in Cairo confirmed that the Egyptian Minister of Immigration, Nabila Makram, did not make any similar statement.
