On Wednesday, the staff at Prolympia in Virserum was reached by the news that a student had been found infected with covid-19.

Via their channels, the school management then urged the guardian and the students to try their hand at testing.

- There were rumors that many had done so-called quick tests that were positive.

So we began to suspect that more people were infected.

But since the rapid tests do not go on to infection control, we only had one confirmed case, says Victoria Axelsson, vice-chancellor at Prolympia.

The school management's call was heeded and according to Victoria Axelsson, there were very many who went and tested themselves with the help of PCR tests.

On Thursday, the results began to fall in with the infection control in Kalmar County and then it turned out that nine students, quite limited to two classes at the school, were affected by covid-19.

"Want to break chains of infection"

In consultation with the infection control doctor, the school decided that teaching for grades 6, 7 and 8 will take place at a distance during the coming week - when the autumn holidays are over.

- We took this discussion with infection control.

They thought it was reasonable that we introduced distance learning for a shorter period of time to break chains of infection.

At the same time, we urge all students in these classes to also avoid other activities outside of school hours, because otherwise this will be a rather ineffective decision, says Victoria Axelsson and explains that this is something that will be followed up.

For the teachers concerned, the decision means that they can once again find themselves teaching the students at a distance.

- I am very impressed by the teaching staff.

They are very flexible and very experienced when it comes to this type of situation.

The feeling is that many may have had to take their free days now to change.

But there are no problems, we have good teachers on the construction site, says Victoria Axelsson.
