Few hours of sunshine in October in Umeå - here is the explanation

Umeå has one of 18 solar stations in the country and the October sun hours are not a cheerful read for those who like light.

According to preliminary figures, Umeå received 56 hours of sunshine, compared with Lund, which received 115 hours and the most in the country.

SMHI started measuring the number of hours of sunshine 53 years ago and this year's October is in a shared ninth place in a small number of hours of sunshine together with 1987.

- Umeå had the least number of hours of sunshine in 2000, that year only 42 hours of sunshine were recorded in October, says Sandra Andersson, climatologist at SMHI.
