• Last Hour La Palma registers the largest earthquake since the volcano erupted

At 8:00 am on September 20, the phone began to ring in La Bona Sort, a modest Lotería de Terrassa (Barcelona) administration.

On the other end of the receiver, a Canarian woman was determined to buy three tickets for the Christmas Lottery.

The number he wanted was very specific:

"It's one, nine, nine, two, one ... Do you have it? I've seen on the Internet that you sell it."

-Yes, I have it here, 19921.

-Well, prepare for the one that comes to you.

-Cast?

-Because it's the number of the volcano!

Indeed, 19921 is, right now, the most coveted number on La Palma.

It coincides with the exact date of the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano: September 19, 2021. Now, hundreds of palm trees hope that what the volcano took from them - or, at least, a small part - will return their luck in the December 22 draw.

The client was right: that Monday morning the phone did not stop ringing in the Terrassa administration.

Before noon, his three employees had already dispatched the 1,710 tenths of the 'magic number'

. The vast majority were sent to addresses on La Palma, although some also fell in Galicia, Madrid, Barcelona ... "And, since then, they have not stopped calling us every day, but there is nothing to do: everything is sold."

So modest is the administration that it doesn't even have an online store.

They have had to resort to certified mail and transfers by Bizum so that all the tickets - the entire 19921, except 10 from a Valencian branch - reach their excited customers on time.

In return, they have received a turnover of 34,200 euros ... and a push to the sale of other numbers.

Among the Canarian buyers that morning was the Tajurgo lottery administration, in the center of Santa Cruz de La Palma, which bought four tickets of ten tenths each.

Three of them distributed them to their most trusted clientele.

"

There were cakes for them," they confirm.

If El Gordo touches us, we would donate everything to those affected by the volcano

The fourth ticket is kept, out of the market, behind the armored glass of the establishment.

In the best of cases, if the 19921 were graced with the Gordo, it would be four million euros of prize.

"We would donate everything to those affected by the volcano," they say.

There is not a day since the eruption, we said, that the Tarrasa administration has not received dozens of calls in search of a tenth.

And, given the non-existent offer,

rumors spread throughout the island about how to get the desired number.

"They talk about a bar in Los Llanos that sells it ... but for a good commission, of course," says a lottery expert from the island.

"And also from a churrería that, apparently, bought many tickets and still has some available.

Another beneficiary administration is that of El Paso, the closest to the volcanic cone. There, two brothers, directly affected by the eruption, have seen

their sales skyrocket among the 'volcanic tourists' and also companies in the area

, who have decided to buy their Christmas tenths there. "We are selling more than ever and, within the bad, it helps us to cope with these bad times," they say.

Meanwhile, in Terrassa they endure as much as they can the barrage of calls - "we really have nothing left", they insist on the phone - while crossing their fingers so that, for once, the superstition of buying numbers with the date of a catastrophe takes effect and the 19921 takes the Gordo of 2021. They do it for the good of the palm trees, of course, but also for their own.

"Yes we have stayed a decimal point, of course", they confess.

"Although the important thing is that it touches all those poor people."
