The Catalan Government has relieved the CEO of the Institut Català de Finances (ICF) after the fiasco of the public guarantee of 5.4 million euros to try to cover the bonds that the Court of Accounts has imposed on some thirty independence charges.

Víctor Guardiola

has been replaced after refusing to support the scheme devised by the Government to protect the assets of separatists accused of using public funds to promote the

procés

abroad, among which are

Oriol Junqueras

,

Carles Puigdemont

or

Artur Mas

.

The Government spokesperson has defended that Guardiola has left office "for personal reasons and his own initiative", but it should be remembered that the former CEO refused to approve the guarantees as intended by the Generalitat and forced to submit the decision to a vote in the one that abstained to avoid incurring in a possible illegality.

In that vote, three independent members of the

Catalan ICO

voted against and another three resigned before the meeting in which it took place.

This Tuesday the Government spokesperson has once again defended that the guarantees "were legally solvent" and that they were made "from an absolute framework of legality" despite having been rejected by the Court of Accounts, which has already activated the embargo of the assets of the pro-independence leaders investigated.
