02 November 2021 The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet is born. This is a public-private collaboration program that sees the light in the context of COP 26. It starts with a budget of 10 billion, which wants to reach 100 billion, with the aim of accelerating the energy transition and creating at least 150 millions of environmentally-related jobs in the weakest countries.

Minister Roberto Cingolani, commenting on the initiative during a press conference, explained that the project "is part of that public-private collaboration hoped for by President Draghi with great ambitions: it aims to serve a billion people with renewable energy, a savings of 4 billion tons of carbon dioxide and the creation of over 150 million jobs ".

The initiative is being carried out with, among others, the Rockefeller Foundation and the Jeff Bezos Foundation. The Amazon founder pledged $ 500 million with his Bezos Earth Fund. They add to the billion already allocated by Ikea and Rockefeller and to the more than 8 with which institutions such as World Bank, Asian Development Bank, and US International Development Finance Corporation will participate in the Global Energy Alliance. Bezos has pledged $ 2 billion to regenerate "climate-degraded" land in Africa. The Ministry of Ecological Transition is co-investor of the fund and will be operational immediately.

"Italy - Cingolani announced - is the leader of a group of ten states that are entering the fund". These are states that share the commitment to eliminate social inequalities: an aspect without which the fight against climate change is incomplete. "There is no cure for climate change - explains Cingolani - without also taking care of territorial inequalities". The fund must become "a catalyst", observes Cingolani, pointing out, for example, that a call for ideas could be launched. "We started this initiative - concludes Cingolani - we must understand that climate change and inequalities must be treated on the same level".

"The direction is very clear: a global effort is needed which, in addition to helping countries in the climate transition, identifies new technologies to go faster, otherwise it is difficult to achieve goals with current technologies". Achieving global warming containment goals "with constant technology would be tiring," explained Cingolani.

Stabilize the Youth4Climate Conference

The Ministry of Ecological Transition has decided to allocate an annual budget of 3-4 million euros to make the youth conference on climate, the Youth4Climate, fixed every year. This was announced by the Minister of Ecological Transition, Roberto Cingolani, at Cop26 in Glasgow. "We are enthusiastic about this format and we have decided to stabilize this formula to create a machine in order to transform 'a protest into a proposal'. It is an investment in young people and in the future," said Cingolani.

It is unthinkable to get rid of gas in the next few years

"From a technical point of view, for the next few years it is unthinkable to get rid of gas because we would not have sources to guarantee the continuity of renewables and the availability of green energy to power our countries: the real bet is how good and quick we will be to maintain the promise of the share of renewables in the energy mix by 2030: a share that is very ambitious ".

Nuclear

As for the new generation small atomic reactors being studied in some countries, "it is not the stuff of today, if it works it will be in at least ten years", explains Cingolani, answering a question.

"There is a great deal of reflection underway on the fact of having in the future, in technological neutrality, many different possibilities of producing green energy, that is, that does not produce CO2. We are waiting for the European taxonomy that will tell us what is defined as green and what is feasible, after which the states will make their own decisions, "he says.

"We are one of the sunniest countries in Europe we could have the ambition to be self-sufficient in another way. Let's see what the rules are, then the strategies are made; I would not block the study of these things", he reiterates.
