While non-face-to-face classes are still being held in many schools due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a controversy has arisen as it has recently been revealed that classes were not conducted smoothly due to the insincere attitude of professors and students at some universities.

In the midst of this, the story of a university professor in Indonesia giving an online lecture with a respirator plugged in while fighting a disease became known and moved many people.

According to foreign media reports such as Indonesian local media Remo News, Professor Eddie Prasetio Nugroho of Gajamada University has not shown himself in video lectures for two months since the start of the class in July.

He didn't turn on the camera, saying that he would only teach with a microphone for the students' concentration.

Some students expressed dissatisfaction with this, saying, "Isn't the professor lazy" or "Isn't it too rude?" Other students speculated that "Isn't the professor going out during class?"

The reason was that whenever the professor spoke, he heard a suffocating voice.

Despite the students' complaints, Professor Nugroho continued the class without turning on the camera without giving any explanation.

Then, last September, Professor Nugroho's camera, who was teaching as usual, turned on for a while.

The professor realized that the camera had been turned on by mistake and hurriedly turned the camera off, but the students were at a loss for words when he saw the professor looking through the screen.

It was because Professor Nugroho had a ventilator in his nose.

A student who was attending a class at the time posted the professor's appearance on his social media account, and it quickly spread online, causing a great response from hundreds of thousands of people.

When his lecture became a topic of discussion, Professor Nugroho confessed that he has been suffering from kidney disease for 11 years and is undergoing kidney dialysis every two weeks because his condition has recently worsened.

In order to keep his promise to the students even though he was in a situation where he had to undergo dialysis, he held a 'fighting soul lecture' while receiving treatment.

Professor Nugroho told the local media, "I didn't want students to be unable to concentrate on their studies because of my worries. I always turned off the camera and hid the ventilator."

Not only students but also local netizens expressed their gratitude to Professor Nugroho for the professor's confession of his affection for his students.

On the other hand, according to a SBS report on the 27th of last month, a professor at a domestic university recently gave a video lecture while soaking in a bathtub, causing outrage.

The professor sent an e-mail to the students and explained, "I got a corona vaccine and had a high fever, but it happened because I was forced to take classes in order not to take a break."

The contrast between the two professors' non-face-to-face teaching methods is sharply contrasting, and while voices of support for Indonesian professors continue in Korea, they can't hide their bitterness in the 'tub lecture' incident.

This is a 'news pick'.
