From 7 a.m., despite all the security measures in place, activists from environmental movements temporarily blocked Via Cristoforo Colombo, the avenue leading to the new La Nuvola congress center, where the G20 summit is being held.

Lying on the asphalt, they denounced this closed-door summit that they consider totally unsuitable for an effective fight against climate change.

It was only a foretaste of the protests, notes our correspondent in Rome,

Anne Le Nir

.

In the afternoon, a few thousand people joined an anti-G20 procession, which started near the Pyramid of Cestius and was to end in front of the famous Mouth of Truth in the historic center.

The main slogan chanted in a friendly atmosphere was: "

We are the future, another world is possible

 ".

The police were also monitoring San Giovanni Square, where protesters of the government of Mario Draghi gathered.

They were on alert, because hundreds of thugs mixed with protesters of the Covid-19 crisis management risked entering into action.

Gatherings emanate from anti-globalization activists, for example those of Fridays for Future, to which are added union representatives from the left or the far left and workers from companies in crisis.

The second demonstration was launched against the government at the call of the Communist Obedience Committee “No Draghi”.

Some 8,000 police and carabinieri were mobilized, constantly flown over by helicopters.
