Five people were killed in a shooting Friday during a Halloween party in Panama, in

a crime that police linked to a gang war

, and three other bodies with signs of execution turned up in a landfill.

In the early hours of Friday, five people were shot dead and at least seven wounded during a Halloween concert at a

nightclub located in the popular neighborhood of Santa Ana

, in Panama City, near the touristy old town of the capital.

"The fact is due to a war between gangs," said the commissioner of the National Police, Ricaurte De La Espada.

The party was promoted with images from the

popular Netflix series

The Squid Game

.

The prosecutor, Rafael Baloyes, indicated that the incident occurred when

an individual fired indiscriminately

at alleged members of the rival gang

Los Galacticos

, who also opened fire on their attacker.

The attacker died on the spot, while

four of those attacked died in hospital.

"These criminal groups are not going to stop having criminal behaviors linked to drug trafficking, gang activity, this will bring a consequence," he said at a press conference

Two detainees

In this case, there are two people arrested, including a brother of one of those killed in the attack, who was found with a firearm.

"We assume that he used the firearm to defend his brother," Baloyes said.

Police Director John Dornheim said several of those involved had criminal records and gunshot wounds from previous incidents.

In another violent incident, three people were found dead in the

Kuna Nega community

, on the slopes of Cerro Patacón, the

main garbage dump in Panama City

.

"The evidence is that they are executed," declared Baloyes.

In recent weeks in Panama there have been several murders in restaurants and commercial premises, which has generated alarm.

Panamanian authorities link this type of murder to the settlement of scores between rival gangs for

control of drug routes.

Experts consider that the greater the number of seizures, the greater the number of murders in retaliation for the seized merchandise.

So far in 2021, Panama has already seized a

record 100 tons of drugs

, mainly cocaine, that drug traffickers try to transport from South America, mainly Colombia, to the United States, the world's largest consumer of this drug.
