12 people were killed and others were injured today, Saturday, in a car explosion that targeted the outer gate of Aden International Airport, according to statements by a source in the airport security.

"Twelve people were killed in an explosion that occurred near the first gate in the vicinity of the Aden International Airport building," said the official in the government forces in Aden.

Sources reported that a car bomb exploded at the outer gate of the airport located in Khor Maksar, and that the explosion was heard in large parts of the city, and the fires resulting from the explosion spread to a number of cars near the airport.

Firefighting teams and ambulances rushed to the site of the explosion, while the security forces imposed a security cordon on the place and prevented traffic in the area.

The city of Aden (the interim capital of the internationally recognized government) has witnessed several bloody bombings in recent years, attributed to the Houthis who control the capital, Sanaa, and large areas in the north and west of the country, or claimed by other groups, including the Islamic State.
