It is becoming a side subject of the presidential campaign.

While Fabien Roussel recently sided with the hunters, the environmental candidate Yannick Jadot sided with the walkers this morning on BFMTV and RMC.

"I will ban hunting on weekends and during school holidays, I want us to be able to walk in nature," he announces, justifying the measure by the numerous hunting accidents affecting individuals.

"Three quarters of people who live in rural areas do not dare to go for a walk on Sunday when there is gunfire, it is not normal", Yannick Jadot protested, citing the example of a "walker (Thursday) in Haute-Savoie, who was shot next to a cemetery".

According to the MEP, "70% of hunters come from the cities", while "rurality is the pleasure of the landscapes, to be able to hike, cycle, walk with your dog without being afraid that he will be shot. ".

Emmanuel Macron "under the influence of lobbies"

The candidate also repeated that he would ban hunting with hounds and all “cruel” hunts, denouncing their authorization by Emmanuel Macron, in his eyes “under the influence of hunting lobbies”.

In France, hunting can only be practiced with a permit, within a period defined by the prefect in autumn and winter.

In 2000, a weekly day without hunting, Wednesday, was imposed at the national level before being repealed, leaving the prefects the discretion to implement it or not on their territory.

Yannick Jadot's proposal would therefore be a major upheaval in the schedule, to make it possible to share the public space between hunters and residents during the hunting season.

The ecologist was also asked about the ritual slaughter, used for kosher and hallal meats.

After considering that "No tradition justifies making animals suffer", his entourage clarified that he was not for an outright ban but wanted the animals to be stunned before the operation.

“No misunderstanding about ritual slaughter.

Each religion can have its traditions but nobody can free themselves from the rules of animal welfare, in particular of the stunning ”, specified shortly after the candidate EELV in a tweet, accompanied by a short video filmed at the exit from BFMTV studios.
