Former New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo was indicted on Thursday, CNN reports.

The governor resigned in August after being accused of sexual harassment.

In a statement, Cuomo's lawyer Rita Glavin denied the allegations and questioned the sheriff's integrity.

- Governor Cuomo has never harassed anyone.

The sheriff's motive is clearly inappropriate, says Glavin.

To CNN, the sheriff responds to the lawyer's call: "We get paid to protect and help people, and that's exactly what we do."

Risks one year in prison

In early August, an investigation was published describing repeated incidents of alleged sexual harassment.

Eleven women then testified about unwelcome approaches, stabbing and sexual allusions from Cuomo, one of the women has reported him to the police.

White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki called the sexual harassment in the report "reprehensible."

Shortly afterwards, President Joe Biden also spoke.

"I think he should resign," Biden said at a news conference.

One week after the investigation was published, Cuomo resigned.

He has repeatedly denied the allegations of sexual harassment, although he has admitted that he made mistakes.

In his resignation speech, he described it as being "too familiar" with people.

However, he has insisted that the more serious allegations are untrue.

If the former governor is convicted, he risks one year in prison.
