of the PP in Madrid, the expectation of days of internal tension has returned to Genoa, like a pre-pandemic 'déjà vu'. On the corner of number 13, the threat of rain has endured in extremis, to keep up with the calm climate of the party. Upon the arrival of Isabel Díaz Ayuso, everything seemed headed for a cold war between her relatives and the national leadership, but the president of the Community wanted to change the pace and announced that she would "abide by" whatever Pablo Casado's team decides on when hold the congress to elect the new leader of the autonomous apparatus of the PP.
However, complying does not mean conforming.
In her first party meeting after announcing that she will appear to preside over the PP in Madrid, Ayuso has assured that "it is good that the congress is held soon, I hope it will be held as soon as possible", because she needs that time to renew the leadership municipal elections and put the party in the first half of greeting for the regional and local elections of 2023.
In this sense, the baroness has revealed the scope of her plan: "I want to create a new, participatory party, so that those who voted for us train to be part of this new stage."
This means a fundamental break with the work of the manager that has piloted the PP in Madrid since 2018.
Ayuso has added a warning: "There are statutes that close when [the congresses] are to be held, so that we all follow it normally."
The internal rules of the PP mark March as the deadline for the election of a new president of the PP in Madrid, but Genoa wants to do so in June.
Therein lies the dispute, which has become so stressed that even some leaders plan a lawsuit against the party if it fails to meet the deadlines, as this newspaper advanced.
But Ayuso has wanted to temper the controversy: "I am not here to pressure anyone. It will be when I decide the game and I will abide by it, because it is his thing, because I want us to come out together."
"My proposal is in favor, it is not against anyone," he added, in a veiled reference to the general secretary of the PP, Teodoro García Egea, who has not been able to go to the Board of Directors (who was going to preside) for personal reasons .
The absence of Casado's 'number two' has allayed the criticism of those who had mobilized against him, but not the key message of those related to Ayuso: they accuse Genoa of torpedoing the president's plans and of protecting the 'manager' ( in reality it is an interim leadership) that the party runs in Madrid.
Ayuso has intervened on this point: "I am obliged to make us come out of here strengthened and obliged to convince whoever has disagreements."
Asked about the ruling of the National Court that condemns the former treasurer Luis Bárcenas and the PP for the payment in black of the works of the headquarters, Ayuso has been very graphic: "I already have enough hell with mine to go to other areas ; I am in the autonomic aspect ".
The former president of the Community and of the PP of Madrid Esperanza Aguirre has demanded that there be "no more undue delays" and that the congress of the PP of Madrid be convened as soon as possible.
The "democratic functioning of the parties requires" that congresses be held on time, he said.
On the part of Genoa, the leading voice has been given by the Deputy Secretary of Communication, Pablo Montesinos, and the president of the Guarantee Committee, Andrea Levy.
The first has assured: "We have to row all together so that Pablo Casado is sooner rather than later president of the Government."
And Levy has insisted on the idea: "Internal problems are totally sterile. Spaniards are not interested. The most important thing is to continue being exemplary and not controversial."
As guarantor of the statutes that it is, Levy has added that the internal norms of the PP "are going to be fulfilled as they have always been fulfilled."
This would mean that the congress would be held in March, but the national leadership of the PP prefers June.
"We do not disassociate outside what is united inside," he added.
