The ice has settled on many watercourses in the north.

At the same time, there has been a lot of snow.

The ice is unstable, and where there is a lot of snow, it can also be difficult to see where land ends and streams begin.

Håkan Enoksson and his company got the scooter up and he came up unscathed.

- When the snow comes this early, before it gets cold in the fields, it means bad grazing for the reindeer, but it also happens that the snow settles as an insulating blanket on the ice so we get unstable ice.

In Norrbotten, two reindeer herders

out at work have recently gone through the ice.

It has also happened on the Norwegian side of Sápmi this week.

- It is a difficult situation, you have to go out and have to take the scooter when there is so much snow.

That's part of the job.

But if someone is out driving a scooter now without really having to do it, I think it's just stupid, says Håkan Enoksson, reindeer herder in Leava's Sami village.
