A decontamination of the polluted mining industrial area began but ended in 2014 when Gällivare municipality and the landowner, state Sveaskog, did not agree on who would do the follow-up.

The remediation of the remaining gray rock, which is now located in a lake in the mining area, must be taken care of and placed in a landfill.

And it is the post-control of the landfill that is the dispute between the municipality and Sveaskog.

Environmental manager: "Looking at this again"

That issue must be resolved because the landfill must be controlled so that it is tight and does not leak heavy metals in the future.

- Remediation is part of our planning and we know that we must continue to work on the matter.

We are looking at this again to see if there is any approach that we have not thought of before and that we could implement now, says Gällivare municipality's environmental manager Helena Olofsson.
