The resolution submitted by the Government of Japan to the United Nations every year for a world free of nuclear weapons was adopted by a majority.

In the future, the issue for Japan will be how to play a role of bridging between nuclear-weapon states and non-nuclear-weapon states toward the NPT = Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference to be held in January next year.

As the only country exposed to the war, Japan submits a resolution to the abolition of nuclear weapons to the UN General Assembly every year,


and takes measures to increase the transparency of nuclear policies and mutual trust

as "action guidelines that each country should take immediately".

On the 27th, a vote was taken by the First Committee on Disarmament at the UN General Assembly, which was adopted by a majority of 152 in favor, 4 against, and 30 abstentions.



The resolution was adopted by the United States, the United Kingdom, and France, which abstained last year, for the 28th consecutive year since 1994, with 13 more countries supporting it than last year.

Meanwhile, China and Russia, as well as North Korea and Syria, opposed.



In addition, the resolution did not directly mention the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, which came into effect in January, and Austria and others who promoted the entry into force of this treaty abstained.



Regarding the world's nuclear disarmament, the NPT = Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference is scheduled to be held in January next year, and the issue for Japan is how to play a role of bridging the nuclear-weapon states and non-nuclear-weapon states.
