- Europe has risen first in all the waves we have had, so it is not entirely surprising, says state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell, who believes that there will be another winter with extensive spread of covid-19.

However, most indications are that Sweden will have a lower spread of infection than most other countries in Europe.

Right now, the situation in healthcare is also stable, says Urban Lindberg, chief of staff at the National Board of Health and Welfare.

- Infected in home care and special housing are at about the same level as it has been in recent weeks.

The cloud of unrest is the 20-40-year-olds, who according to the statistics have not been vaccinated to the same degree as others.

And according to Tegnell, it is probably this group that will drive the spread of infection in the future.

Yesterday came the news that more people will be offered a third refill dose of covid-19 vaccine from 1 November.

In a first step, it is about people over 65 years and staff who care for the elderly, but in future everyone over 16 years will be offered a third dose.

Exactly when, however, is unclear.

According to Sweden's Municipalities and Regions SKR, it is important to have good foresight from the authorities, something that it is considered that FHM did not have.

"Very clear signals"

- We have been extremely clear that the vaccinations in the latest group can start already on Monday, says Anders Tegnell.

But according to Tegnell, the vaccinations will start as early as next week, and he believes there is preparedness in the regions.

- We will also be very clear when we see signals of being able to vaccinate additional groups.

As an effect of higher spread of infection outside Sweden's borders, FHM changes the recommendation for testing for covid-19 after a stay abroad.

- Even fully vaccinated people who get symptoms after traveling in other countries must be tested within 14 days, says Tegnell.
