October 28, 2021 Threats of hacker attacks on the Italian health care sector appeared on a poster issued by the "Groove cyber crime group", a criminal "crew" that called together other similar groups to respond to the actions carried out by US agencies against " Revil ", a Russian-based gang specializing in ransomware and held responsible for last May's attack on the Colonial Pipeline in the United States. The intent is to hit the US and its allies.
Sources in the Italian health sector - Ansa learns - reported that the National Cybersecurity Agency has already alerted potential targets about possible risks for days, suggesting adequate countermeasures to counter the possible attack.
In the manifesto of "Groove" the Italian healthcare sector is explicitly mentioned as one of the possible targets and given the prominent position of the cybercriminal group, the threat is evaluated very carefully. Hence the invitation from the Agency to increase IT security measures to prevent any hostile actions.
The attacks on the US and its allies solicited by the "Groove group" would therefore be a retaliation for the action against "Revil" whose site "happy blog" was in turn hacked and taken offline in recent days with an action of "counter-attack" promoted by the US. The site was used to extort money from "ransomware" victims by letting out sensitive data. In July, Revil also compromised the American software company Kaseya.
