Canon has officially launched the “Moments Worth Documenting” photography competition, in cooperation with the Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award, which aims to provide a platform for all people to harness the power of visual storytelling in order to bring about positive change. On sustainability, which is one of Canon’s main pillars, and one of the themes of Expo 2020 Dubai, will allow participants to showcase what the future of the planet represents for them.

Photography enthusiasts from all over the world, over the age of 18, can participate in the competition.

Prizes will include $8000 in cash, gold coins and Canon equipment.

Participants join a challenge to capture and submit five images that reflect the principles of sustainability within any of the four aspects of global sustainability issues: economic, human, environmental and social.

The award is based on the creativity of the participants, the categories of participation are divided into the moments that make us (the environmental side), the moments that heal us (the human side), the moments that save us (the social side), and the moments that develop us (the economic side). Entries can be submitted via the website Canon Corporation.

The competition will be judged by an international committee comprising of many experts, and the winners' photos will be presented in a virtual exhibition hosted by Canon's website, in addition to holding an actual exhibition in the sustainability pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai.

Canon Middle East and Turkey CEO, Venkata Subramanian Hariharan, said during a press conference, yesterday: “We launched the global photography competition (Moments Worth Documenting) at (Expo 2020 Dubai), and this issue will affect our future, which is why we want to involve the world. ...to look through the eyes of as many people as possible, and share their vision of what the future of the planet means for them.

This initiative will help members of the community see the bigger picture, and how sustainability can frame every aspect of our lives.”

The Secretary-General of the Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award, Ali Khalifa bin Thalith Al Himiri, stressed that the competition will bring photographers out of the limited objective frameworks into the space of thinking about creating a better future for humanity.

He said that only professional and creative photographers are able to diagnose challenges and propose solutions in ways that carry real practical value, through amazing and inspiring "moments", full of eloquent meanings and connotations, blending the aesthetics of the scene and the power of expression.

The CEO of the visitor experience at Expo 2020 Dubai, Marjan Faraidooni, indicated that the unification of efforts between Canon and the Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award, by launching the “Moments Worth Documenting” competition, represents a positive step towards creating An initiative that will help communities understand and realize the importance of protecting and preserving the planet, and we believe in the power of art and creativity in conveying this message, and this is what motivates us to be partners in this initiative.
