The World Health Organization has unveiled a new plan to combat the COVID-19 pandemic in the poorest countries, asking for $23.4 billion in the next 12 months to fund it.

The organization said in a statement that the partnership between the major global health agencies "needs $23.4 billion to help the most vulnerable countries to the epidemic, to access and use the means to combat Covid-19 between now and September 2022."

She stressed that this amount is very small compared to the thousands of billions of dollars in economic losses caused by the pandemic and the cost of recovery plans.

numbers and data

The latest figures indicate that the Corona virus has caused the death of at least 4,969,926 people in the world since the World Health Organization office in China reported the emergence of the epidemic at the end of December 2019, according to a census conducted by Agence France-Presse based on the Official sources Thursday at ten o'clock UTC.

More than 245 million people have been confirmed infected with the virus since its appearance.

The vast majority of those infected recovered, although some continued to experience symptoms weeks or even months later.

The numbers are based on daily reports issued by each country's health authorities, and exclude subsequent reviews by statistical agencies that indicate much higher death numbers.

The World Health Organization, taking into account the excess mortality rate directly or indirectly related to Covid-19, considers that the outcome of the epidemic may be two or three times greater than the officially announced outcome.

A large proportion of less serious cases or asymptomatic cases remain undetected, despite the intensification of examinations in a large number of countries.
