Chen Jingxiong,

  an

expert in antenna technology in China and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering-

the scientific life of a centenary party member

On October 16, the Shenzhou 13 manned spacecraft was successfully launched.

On the same day, Shenzhou 13 adopted an autonomous rapid rendezvous and docking mode and successfully docked to the radial port of the Tianhe core cabin, forming a four-cabin (ship) combination with the previously docked Tianzhou-2 and Tianzhou-3 cargo spacecraft.

This is the microwave radar developed by the Second Academy of China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation, which is the first to guide manned spacecraft to carry out radial rendezvous and docking in space.

Chen Jingxiong, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, was extremely excited when he saw this news on the TV.

This is a special birthday gift.

This day is also the 100th birthday of Academician Chen Jingxiong.

"I have witnessed the centuries after the founding of the Communist Party of China, and in the future, I have to watch the aerospace science and industry in the motherland flourish." He said.

Chen Jingxiong had an indissoluble bond with the aerospace science and technology industry throughout his life.

He equipped China's "Dongfeng No. 1" missile with sharp “eyes”, allowing the Chinese to have their own first-generation missiles; The performance of the antenna has achieved a qualitative leap; he took the lead in the construction of multiple radars for China's missile defense system, filling in a number of technical gaps.

After retiring, Chen Jingxiong still cares about the aerospace science and industry of the motherland.

In 2008, he set up an education fund in the Department of Physics of Peking University to support the discipline construction and talent training of the School of Physics.

Chen Jingxiong devoted his life to his beloved aerospace science and industry.

Today, let us approach this centenary party member and feel the light and heat of his scientific life.

A door to open a career

In the year of Yiyi, "I can't remember anymore" became the mantra of Academician Chen Jingxiong.

When he was young, Chen Jingxiong's favorite songs and favorite movies gradually blurred with the passage of time.

However, the years of his youth devoted to the aerospace science and engineering industry are still clear in his mind many years later.

Chen Jingxiong was born in 1921 in a merchant family in Ningbo, Zhejiang.

According to local traditions, many children have dropped out of school and started business since they were young.

Chen Jingxiong believes that "this is not the life I want", and he is eager to change his destiny with knowledge.

His father supported Chen Jingxiong's idea and decided to send him out to school.

"Study hard, and rely on your own ability to eat in the future." His father's words have been inspiring him.

As a teenager, Chen Jingxiong showed extraordinary talent in mathematics, and basically got full marks in every exam.

With excellent results, he was admitted to Shanghai Jiaotong University.

After graduation, he was assigned to work in East China Post and Telecommunications Administration.

In 1957, the Ministry of National Defense ordered Chen Jingxiong to work in the Second Branch of the Fifth Academy of the Ministry of National Defense (the predecessor of the Second Academy of the Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation) and became the first generation of astronauts in China.

Just stepping into the "gateway to space", Chen Jingxiong received an important task-the development of the "Dongfeng No. 1" missile antenna.

At that time, the countries concerned were tight-lipped about key technical issues, and there was no domestic experience to learn from.

Questions from the outside world continue: "The'Hertz Potential Method' is currently a widely used and relatively mature algorithm in the world. It is a fantasy to challenge authority!"

  Chen Jingxiong didn't believe it.

"Science has dangers and hard work can pass." Time after time measurement data, scientific research demonstrations, time after time trial failures, trial and error... One" flew into the sky.

Chen Jingxiong's "Direct Solving Method of Maxwell's Equations" provides a scientific theoretical basis for missile antenna design and successfully breaks the theoretical limits of foreign experts on antenna design.

This scientific algorithm also effectively promoted the successful development of the "Hongqi-1" missile antenna.

At that time, the U.S. U-2 high-altitude reconnaissance plane arbitrarily invaded China's airspace. Qian Xuesen's "pointer" Chen Jingxiong asked him to take the lead in overcoming the antenna error problem of the "Hongqi-1" missile.

One afternoon in July 1965, Qian Xuesen met with Chen Jingxiong in his office.

As soon as he entered the door, Qian Xuesen went straight to the subject: "I want you to overcome this key technology." Chen Jingxiong was very excited when he received this sacred task.

Back at the research institute, Chen Jingxiong was both happy and worried. He was happy to be able to display his talents in the field he was good at; what was worried was that the mission was extremely difficult. If the missile antenna error problem could not be solved, he would be sorry for the trust of the organization and leadership.

After accepting the task, Chen Jingxiong immediately set up a scientific research team, carried out hundreds of experiments and theoretical analysis, and finally found the cause of the antenna error.

In 1966, the "Hongqi No. 1" was deployed to troops.

With his outstanding contributions in the field of antenna theory and guided radar antenna design, Chen Jingxiong won the first prize of the National Invention Award in 1987 and was named an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1995.

A hug across time and space

  "Happy birthday to you!"

An old man with white hair bent over, opened his arms, and hugged another old man in a wheelchair.

At the scene, a reporter took out the camera, took this moving scene, and posted this photo called "195-year-old hug" on the Internet, and countless netizens were moved by it.

Netizens commented: "This is the'star' we should chase. They have supported the backbone of the Chinese nation and paid tribute to the two scientists!"

These two elderly people, one is 95-year-old Academician Zhang Luqian, and the other is 100-year-old Academician Chen Jingxiong.

On October 13, at the Centenary Academician Chen Jingxiong's Scientific Life Symposium on "Promoting the Spirit of Aerospace, Inheriting the Character of Struggle", two old friends who had been away for many years met again.

This is a hug across time and space.

In 1965, Chen Jingxiong and Zhang Luqian jointly assumed the task of developing a certain type of radar.

They repeatedly demonstrated the design plan and constantly challenged the summit of scientific research.

A few years later, this type of radar was successfully tested.

After learning the news, Chen Jingxiong and Zhang Luqian were excited and hugged each other tightly.

At that moment, the joy of the successful experiment and the difficulties of scientific research were intertwined.

A hug is worth a thousand words.

Joined the army in the same year, served as the deputy director of a research institute in the same year, and was named an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in the same year. They formed a deep friendship in their work and worked together for the new China's aerospace science and technology industry for a lifetime.

At the forum, many familiar faces came, including colleagues who fought side by side with Chen Jingxiong in the front line of scientific research, well-known old academicians, and the apprentices he brought out.

  This scene made people excited.

Many years ago, in this same office, they sat together, arguing over a certain scientific research topic, just to overcome technical problems as soon as possible and create a path of independent innovation.

In Zhang Luqian's memory, Chen Jingxiong is a person who likes to be quiet, just like his silent career.

Chen Jingxiong told the people around him, don't worry about being famous or not, and be a "unsung hero" in a down-to-earth manner.

Compared with the "quietness" in life, Chen Jingxiong is particularly "high-profile" at work.

He is never superstitious about authority on academic issues.

When participating in academic exchange activities, he never followed blindly, and he dared to express different opinions on arguments with theoretical flaws, even if they were demonstrated by international academic authorities.

Once, an electromagnetic theorist gave a public lecture, and Chen Jingxiong went to attend the lecture.

He found that there were some problems in the derivation of a formula, and raised objections to the experts on the spot.

"Believe in science and listen to whoever is right." Chen Jingxiong is rigorous in his studies and never shows mercy on academic issues.

Every time he proposes a design plan or technical summary, he will let everyone express their own views, and whoever's theory can withstand scrutiny will be listened to. Everyone admires Chen Jingxiong's scientific and rigorous work attitude.

A living textbook

A pair of old-fashioned rubber shoes, a pan-white sportswear, the swing arm range and stride frequency always remain at the same rhythm, the pace is light and not fast or slow... Observing the back, you can't think that this is an old academician who has passed away.

Chen Jingxiong usually exercises his body. Before the age of 80, he kept running every day and was in good health.

The running location is on Yongding Road in the western suburbs of Beijing. This road is nearly 4 kilometers long. He runs back and forth every day.

"Only in good health can we better contribute to the aerospace industry." When asked about his secret to longevity, Chen Jingxiong replied with a smile, "You must have good living habits." No matter how busy he is at work, he will Ensure adequate sleep time, so that the body can be "charged" in time.

After retiring, Chen Jingxiong still maintained the true qualities of a scientific research veteran-insisting on reading scientific research briefings and caring about the aerospace science and industry undertakings of the motherland.

Chen Jingxiong likes to study. This is a habit he has cultivated for many years.

In the living room, there are 4 bookcases filled with various professional books.

In his 90s, Chen Jingxiong continued to study and research.

"Live until you grow old, and learn to grow old." This is what he asks of himself.

"These books are not easy to read, but they exercise their thinking." Chen Jingxiong will use his own algorithm to re-derive the relevant mathematical formulas when he sees where he is interested.

Swim in the ocean of mathematics, his eyes gleamed with light.

In the golden autumn of October, the locust leaves on both sides of Yongding Road dance with the wind, as if they were singing a soothing old song.

As the weather was getting colder, Chen Jingxiong had limited mobility, so he could only sit in a wheelchair and admire the autumn scenery outside the window.

In his spare time, students will come to visit Chen Jingxiong.

Many people are already well-known experts in the industry, but Chen Jingxiong still teaches them over and over again as children: "We must always listen to the party, follow the party, and build a country with science and technology, and we must rely on generations of scientific and technological workers to continue struggle."

"Without the Communist Party, there will be no New China, and without the Communist Party, China will not be able to develop." Chen Jingxiong has always kept in mind his identity as a party member and dedicated his life to the party and the country.

Be the same age as the party and walk with the party.

After submitting the application for joining the Party for the first time, Chen Jingxiong wrote to his sister: "I have many shortcomings, and I must correct them in the future and strive to become a qualified Communist Party member." In 1979, the Party Branch of the Science and Technology Division of a Research Institute of the Ministry of National Defense Approved Chen Jingxiong's application to join the party and agreed to recruit him as a candidate for the CCP.

Over the years, no matter how much achievements he has made, Chen Jingxiong has not forgotten his identity as a party member: don’t take a special car, insist on walking to and from work; at the age of 70, he still sits on the train hard sleeper on business trips, and refuses to eat the lunch on the train in order to save money...

In the impression of his student, Xie Lianggui, the executive deputy director of the Science and Technology Committee of the Aerospace Science and Industry Group, Chen Jingxiong has a special spirit of character after the baptism of gunfire and smoke and hard years.

This kind of vigor is the unfailing spiritual background of the Communists.
