The Russian Foreign Ministry noted that in Latvia, the reconstruction of the airfield in Lielvarde, which is capable of "receiving the latest generation aircraft at any time of the day, regardless of weather conditions," has been completed.

“We are convinced that the building up of NATO's potential in the Baltics can lead to destabilization of the military-political situation in the Baltic region,” the statement says.

Zakharova stressed that Moscow's proposals for de-escalation remain in force.

Earlier, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that NATO, against the backdrop of calls to contain Russia, is pulling forces to the country's borders.
