King Felipe VI has appointed
Bernardo Francisco de Lizaur Cuesta
as the new
head of Protocol of the General Secretariat of the Royal Household,
as recorded in the BOE this Monday.
Lizaur
will take over from Alfredo Martínez Serrano, a
career diplomat who on September 28 was appointed by the Council of Ministers as the new Spanish
ambassador to Canada
, thus leaving a position he had held since Don Felipe acceded to the throne in 2014.
The new head of Protocol, a career military man, has been working for years in the Casa del Rey, where he
was until now the
number two
of Protocol
and had assumed the post on an interim basis after the departure of Martínez Serrano, according to sources from Zarzuela.
Born in Seville in 1963, he is
married and the father of two children.
Francisco de Lizaur entered the General Military Academy in 1985 and received the office of cavalry lieutenant in 1990. In 2018 the job of colonel rose.
Graduated from the General Staff of the Armed Forces
and in Operational Military Research, he also passed a master's degree in Operational Research from the Complutense University of Madrid and is titled by IESE with its Leadership Program for Public Management.
Lizaur, behind the Kings in Santa Maria del Puerto, Exemplary Town of Asturias.
He has developed his career combining
civilian and military posts in the House of His Majesty the King and in the Armed Forces,
and in 2004 he was commissioned at NATO Headquarters in Sarajevo.
A year later, in 2005, he joined the General Secretariat of Zarzuela, where since 2015 he held the position of
Director of Hearings and Acts.
