• America The Senate of Brazil will accuse Bolsonaro of homicide for his management of the pandemic

The special commission set up in the Brazilian Senate to investigate the management of the pandemic came to an end on Tuesday night with the approval of the final report. With

seven votes in favor and four against,

the senators gave the green light to a text that accuses Bolsonaro of nine crimes: epidemic resulting in death, violation of sanitary measures, irregular use of public funds, incitement to crime, falsification of documents , charlatanism, prevarication, crime against humanity and crime of responsibility.

Another 78 people are

also

pointed out,

including his three political sons, four ministers and two former ministers, and two private companies. The report gathers thousands of evidence and is based mainly on the thesis of the Government to achieve herd immunity through mass contagion. Other central points of the accusations are the bet on ineffective drugs against covid-19 and the delay in the purchase of vaccines, which were also marked by suspicions of corruption.

Before the vote, the rapporteur of the commission that drafted the text, Senator

Renan Calheiros,

stressed Bolsonaro's responsibility for the more than 606,000 deaths that the country accumulates: "Many deaths could have been avoided. The responsibility lies with many people. , but mainly from the President of the Republic, from that 'serial killer' who has a death compulsion and continues to repeat everything he did previously, "he said.

Calheiros and opposition senators were especially outraged by a grave statement by Bolsonaro last Thursday. In one of his videos that he broadcasts live on social networks, he assured that vaccines against covid-19 can cause AIDS. Bolsonaro threw the stone and hid his hand. He did not go into detail, claiming he might "have problems" with the video. Medical associations responded in a whirlwind by

flatly denying the information,

and Facebook and Instagram removed the video. YouTube went one step further and suspended its channel for a week, recalling that its guidelines do not allow "medical misinformation."

In line with all this controversy, the senators included a request for Google, Facebook and Twitter to

hand over private information on Bolsonaro, such

as registration and content editing data and all stored material. In addition, they asked the Federal Supreme Court for a precautionary measure that prohibits Bolsonaro's access to social networks "to protect the Brazilian population."

Precisely, the dissemination of 'fake news' is one

of the pillars of the accusations

against the president in the Senate report. Both he and his environment spread lies about masks or social distancing, but also proclaimed the benefits of ineffective drugs (such as chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine) and sowed doubts against vaccines. The government even ignored requests from laboratories like Pfizer, which was willing to sell millions of vaccines to Brazil to make the country "the showcase" for the global vaccination campaign.

After approval of the report, the text with all the evidence will be delivered to the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic, the State Prosecutors' Offices and even the International Criminal Court in The Hague, the competent bodies to evaluate the different criminal types.

However, it is

highly unlikely that Bolsonaro will end up in jail.

Rather, it is a strategy of political attrition.

Less than a year before the elections.
