The first student vomited on the school bus at 8 o'clock in the morning.

Soon more students fell ill.

At the end of the day, the school could count on about 40 children with vomiting.

And on Wednesday, the day after the outbreak, 100 children were on sick leave.

- This is a challenge for us, but the employees at the school did a good job of taking care of the children, says Yassine Yassine.

Some got a drip

It was students from preschool class up to third who suffered from vomiting.

13 of them sought care in the emergency room on Tuesday, which caused Helsingborg's hospital to go into staff mode.

- We had several children in during the evening.

Some were dehydrated and received treatment with drip before they were sent home, says Håkan Kerrén, operations manager at the emergency department.

No child needed to be admitted.

And already at 19 o'clock the hospital was able to depart from the staff situation.

The school principal does not believe that the outbreak was due to something served at lunch.

The children ate fish sticks on Tuesday, food prepared in a cooking kitchen at Gåsebäck.

- The children had not eaten lunch when the first ones became ill, he says.

The food is examined

In the cooking kitchen, the environmental administration paid a visit on Tuesday evening:

- Most of the food was thrown away, but we could take samples of rice and a cold mayonnaise-based sauce that seemed interesting.

We have sent them away and are waiting for the analysis results, says Olu Lindström, head of department at the environmental administration.

When it came to hygiene in the kitchen, everything looked good, according to Olu Lindström.

Also in the school and the associated preschool, where the municipality came to visit on Wednesday.

- We did not find anything remarkable there.

So the investigation continues and we will find out if it was a food that caused this or not, says Olu Lindström.

SVT has applied for but not been contacted by Smittskydd Skåne, which is also investigating the outbreak.
