Now the former cohabitant, a man in his 70s, is sentenced to 18 years in prison for murder, reports Göteborgs-Posten.
The incident occurred in Torslanda in Gothenburg at the beginning of April this year.
The man sounded the alarm himself and claimed that they had a fight and that the woman had fallen.
However, after she died at the hospital the next day, the autopsy showed that she had died of lack of oxygen after being strangled.
