The patient, who is in his 50s, was to be operated on one day in September this year.
An area of the abdomen was disinfected with ethanol and after that an electric tool would be used.
But the ethanol had not completely evaporated and the skin caught fire.
The patient suffered a burn in the abdomen and was subsequently forced to undergo a skin transplant to the injured area.
The academic hospital has now reported itself to Ivo, who will investigate the care injury.
