The National Board of Health and Welfare has compared the emergency departments in Sweden in 2020 and how long patients have to wait for care, so-called length of stay.

And the shortest time spent in an emergency room in the country can be found at Oskarshamn Hospital.

- It's very flattering!

We are very happy that we get that attention, says Linda Axelsson who is operations manager at the emergency department at Oskarshamn Hospital.

Small hospital

The length of stay in the emergency room in Oskarshamn was two hours and fifteen minutes, the survey shows.

It can be compared with the median value for the country which was about 3.5 hours.

Södersjukhuset in Stockholm had the longest waiting time with a waiting time of six hours.

The recipe for success for Oskarshamn's part may be that it is a small hospital.

- I think a lot is about the short decision paths that exist in small hospitals.

And we work hard with our flows and our times, says Linda Axelsson.

Calculated in all of Sweden's 21 regions' hospitals, it shows that the Kalmar County region has the country's shortest waiting times in the emergency departments.

Region Kronoberg is in seventh place in the statistics.

The longest waiting time is in the metropolitan regions, where the Stockholm Region holds the less flattering top position.

Never sit still

The emergency clinic in Oskarshamn does not intend to sit back and be content with being the best in the country - the work continues.

- No, you must never sit quietly in the boat, but you must continue to work, continue to follow the statistics and attack where we see that it is failing, says Linda Axelsson.
