Afghan Islamist Taliban met with ambassadors from 14 countries, including Japan, in Qatar, the Middle East.

As foreign assets in Afghanistan are frozen and food shortages in the country are becoming more serious, the Taliban is activating relations with other countries with the aim of unfreezing assets and approving them as a nation.

Acting Foreign Minister Muttaki of Tullivan's interim administration met with ambassadors and special representatives of 14 countries including Japan's Ambassador to Afghanistan Okada, Germany and the Netherlands in Doha, Qatar, on the 27th.

According to a Taliban spokesman, Acting Foreign Minister Muttaki sought cooperation from each country and national approval to lift the freezing of Afghanistan's overseas assets, which the United States and others are continuing.

The Taliban's regaining power in Afghanistan appears to be the first time it has met with ambassadors from so many countries in a single day since August 15, with one in two Taliban serving serious food. While UN agencies are concerned that there is a risk of shortages, they are activating relations with other countries to stop further economic deterioration.
