26,000 Scanian students in grades 6 and 9 and high school year 2 have answered a long list of questions about how they feel and enjoy life.

And when Region Skåne now presents its report, there is a lot to look forward to.

A majority of those who responded think they are in good health, they are happy with themselves and have a bright future.

The answers also show that students smoke and drink less, compared to the previous report that came five years ago.

The vast majority of students in all grades also find it easy to talk to their parents or other adults if they have problems.

More people feel bad

But there are also figures that are worrying, especially when it comes to stress and mental illness.

Girls feel worse than boys and the greatest deterioration has occurred among girls in year 6. In that group, the proportion who state that they are satisfied with themselves has decreased by 17 percentage points.

Among girls in the sixth grade, the proportion who felt bad for at least two weeks has also increased by 19 percentage points.

The students who feel bad also seek help to a lesser extent.

This is especially true for boys.

Among the boys who felt bad for more than two weeks, only half as many asked for help with student health in 2021 compared with 2016.

More snus and energy drinks

The students therefore smoke and drink less.

However, they drink more energy drinks and snuff more.

Snus use is increasing in all groups and most boys use snus in high school.

It also increases in the sixth, but is at a very low level.

The boys also spend more time on digital games.

Almost half of the boys in ninth grade stated that they play more than three hours a day.

But gambling has also increased among girls.

Satisfied with life

On the whole, the students in the report are still satisfied with their lives.

The same applies to faith in the future.

The boys see a brighter future than the girls.

On the whole, a majority of young people look to the future with confidence.

But the proportion who do it decreases and most among the girls in the sixth.
