The United States was planning to hold official ceremonies to sign the normalization agreement between Khartoum and Tel Aviv within a month, after it was previously postponed at the request of Israel against the backdrop of tension between the military and members of the transitional government in Sudan.

The United States offered Tel Aviv to hold signing ceremonies, during the last visit of Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid to Washington two weeks ago.

However, with the recent developments in Sudan, Israeli sources suggested that relations and contacts between the two parties will continue despite what Sudan is witnessing now.

The sources expected - according to the Al-Jazeera correspondent - to postpone the signing of the normalization agreement between the two parties to a later date, although "the commander of the Sudanese army (chairman of the Sovereignty Council) Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan is a supporter of normalization."

Recently, Sudanese Minister of Justice Nasser El-Din Abdel Bari met with a number of Israeli government ministers who were on an official visit to the UAE, and a Sudanese security delegation made a secret visit to Tel Aviv.

On the other hand, an Israeli security delegation headed to Khartoum.

In October 2020, the White House announced that (former) President Donald Trump had signed a decree removing Sudan from the US list of state sponsors of terrorism, and that Khartoum and Tel Aviv had agreed - with US mediation - to normalize relations.

A joint US-Sudanese-Israeli statement described the normalization agreement between Khartoum and Tel Aviv as historic, and considered it a testimony to the bold approach of the four leaders (Trump, Al-Burhan, Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok, and former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu).

The decision to normalize relations with Israel provoked different reactions in Sudan, as some considered it a historical event that would bring stability and prosperity to the country, while others saw it as "weakness and humiliation, and a departure from Sudan's constants and history in support of the Palestinian people."
