For the second year in a row, the Gothenburg shipyard was canceled due to the corona pandemic.

Instead, the runners were given the choice to complete a digital lap or move their place to 2022. The fact that runners would not get their money back after the canceled race provoked strong reactions.

About 40 people reported the Gothenburg Athletics Association to the General Complaints Board, ARN.

But ARN now stands on the organizer's side and believes that the conditions have been reasonable, Göteborgs-Posten reports.

ARN writes in the decision that the circumstances were beyond the organizer's control.

Risk placed on the participants

At the same time, it is stated that the risk has been placed entirely on the participants, but that this is considered reasonable as the registration fee is not considered to be high.

"The fact that a non-profit organization and a participant in a sports event arranged by the organization agree that the participant shall bear that risk does not in its opinion appear unreasonable in itself, provided that the risk that the participant may bear in money does not amount to such a large amount ”

, writes ARN.

However, the Swedish Consumer Agency is critical of the union and has opened a so-called supervisory case.

That process is still ongoing.
