Although the country is very small, a third of the world's coral species are found in Singapore, writes the BBC.

But for decades, large parts of the country's coral reefs have died, partly due to pollution.

A group of researchers at the National University of Singapore are trying to change this - and are using Lego to help the coral re-establish itself.

- It is possible to adapt the shape and size, so if we want to work with larger corals, we just have to use more pieces, says researcher Jani Tanzil about the odd method.

The coral reef is dying out

In ten years, 14 percent of the world's coral reefs have died.

Rising temperatures are devastating for coral reefs - at two degrees warming, 99 percent of reefs can be lost.

Coral reefs cover only 0.2 percent of the seabed.

But they contain a quarter of the entire marine flora and fauna.
