Al-Burhan reveals: Hamdok is in my house and not in another place

The Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Army, Lieutenant-General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, revealed that Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok, who was arrested on Monday, and calls on the international community to know his whereabouts and his immediate release, is with him at his home.

Al-Burhan said in a press conference on Tuesday, "The prime minister is with me at home and not in another place... We feared that any harm would happen to him."

Al-Burhan pledged that Hamdok will return to his home "when things are settled and fears are removed."

For his part, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called on Tuesday for the "immediate release" of the Sudanese prime minister, expressing his regret for the "multiple" coups and the "total exclusion" pursued by the military.

Guterres said at a press conference that the great geopolitical divisions "that prevent the" Security Council from taking strong measures" and the epidemic and economic and social difficulties make "military leaders consider that they have complete immunity, and that they can do whatever they want because nothing will harm them."

On Monday, Al-Burhan announced the dissolution of the Sovereignty Council and the government and the imposition of a state of emergency in the country.

Al-Burhan's decisions also included the dissolution of all trade union entities and professional federations in Sudan.

And on Monday, the Sudanese Ministry of Culture and Information announced on its official Facebook page that a force of the army had arrested Hamdok after he refused to support the coup.

Al-Burhan admitted that the Sudanese security authorities had arrested some politicians and ministers and said, “It is true that we arrested some, not all politicians or all ministers, but everyone we suspect has an impact on national security.”

Al-Burhan affirmed that the military are committed to completing the transition with civilian participation, noting that the Sovereignty Council will be as it is in the constitutional document, but with real representation from the regions of Sudan.
