A 38-year-old man was sentenced this Friday to 24 years in prison by the Seine-et-Marne Assize Court, reports Le Parisien.

On the night of March 24 to 25, 2018, in Lizines, near Provins, he beat his partner, also 38, to death.

During the three days of the trial, the defendant did not admit having intended to kill her that night.

Fourteen broken ribs

The medical examiner's report detailed during the trial nevertheless reported multiple head injuries, a swollen face, but also fourteen broken ribs.

At the bar, the man claimed to have given his companion a "big slap", while admitting to having thrown on her various objects before throwing her violently against the headboard.

Just before his arrest, he had also tried to disguise his homicide as a traffic accident.

For the family of the victim, the verdict is up to the atrocity of the facts.

The accused "finds it extremely severe that he is credited with the intention to kill," said his lawyer.

He might consider appealing.
