According to the county administrative board, the black-headed snail was discovered for the first time in 2019, then in Västmanland.

Shortly afterwards, Uppsala County's first case of the snail was reported.

At the time of writing, more than 100 reports have been received in Uppsala County, where private individuals have stated that they have seen the snail on their plot.

The black-headed snail is sometimes mistaken for a young Spanish forest snail, also called a killer snail.

- But there are some things that separate them.

On the Spanish forest snail, the breathing holes are further back.

The Spanish snail also varies more in color, while the black-headed one is almost always gray and almost a little transparent, says Mattias Renström.
