During the past week, gardens and plots in Uppsala County have received four-legged visits in the form of snail-sniffing dogs.

Two dog handlers from southern Sweden have visited the county, where the distribution of the black-headed snail is large, to further map its distribution.

- Not everyone reports the snail on the species portal, says Mattias Renström, administrator with a focus on invasive species at the County Administrative Board in Uppsala County.

Informs residents about the snail

The dog handlers picked a lot of snails during the visit to Uppsala - but in the end it lands on the landowner to keep the snails away from the garden.

- It is also one of the reasons why we are out like this: To inform residents that the snail exists.

It is so new that many do not know it, says Marie Koenen, dog handler.

The dog teams made "strikes" in areas where the snail is reported in the species portal.

It does this partly in Uppsala city districts such as Ekeby and Norby.

But it is also reported in the county, especially in Älvkarleby municipality in North Uppland.
