In a statement on Monday, Erdogan says that the foreign envoys have made a joint statement in which they back away from previous "slander against our country", reports the news agency AFP.

According to the media company CNN Türk, the statement was made after a government meeting on Monday.

Erdogan also believes that the designated ambassadors have been influenced by the Turkish threat to declare them "persona non grata", undesirable in the country.

"They will be more careful from now on," he told AFP.

The background to Turkey's anger is the demands of the designated countries that the imprisoned businessman and activist Osman Kavala should be released.

The ambassadors have written a joint statement saying that the prison country "casts a shadow" over Turkey.

It relies on the European Court of Justice's ruling from 2019 and the Council of Europe's repeated calls for Kavala to be released.
