Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan declares a state of emergency in Sudan and dissolves the Sovereignty and Ministerial Councils

Today, Monday, the President of the Sudanese Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, announced the imposition of a state of emergency in Sudan and the dissolution of the Sovereignty Council and the Council of Ministers.

He also announced the suspension of work on some provisions of the constitutional document, and the freezing of the work of the Empowerment Removal Committee.

He said in a televised speech that "the quarrels, the scramble for power, and the incitement to chaos, without considering the economic and security threats" is what prompted him to do what preserves Sudan and its revolution.

He stressed that "the divisions constituted a warning of a danger threatening the country."

He pledged the armed forces' commitment to the "democratic transition" until the handover of power to civilians through general elections.

He also pledged to form a government of national competencies.
