Becoming world champion at home is good.

To become world champion of a foreign specialty on the grounds of this one, it is even better.

Lyonnais Nabil Barina achieved this feat by winning the world tiramisu championship in Milan on Sunday.

Twenty-four international pastry chefs competed in the first edition of this competition organized by the FIPGC, the International Federation of Pastry, Ice Cream and Chocolate.

Pastry chef at the gourmet restaurant La Maison (Lyon 7), passed by Fauchon and Pierre Hermé, Nabil Barina presented two tiramisu recipes, one classic, the other revisited, which won unanimous votes.

The second prize went to the Japanese Kirara Kushibiki, winner of the “innovative tiramisu”, and the third to the Swiss Gianluca Fiorentino, winner of the “classic tiramisu”.

“The confrontation of so many different cultures with this super-classic of Italian pastry making has offered us creations and interpretations that are as original as they are delicious,” commented Roberto Lestani, President of the FIPGC, on the Federation's website.
