Russia puts a man who leaked videos of torture in a prison on its wanted list

The database of the Russian Interior Ministry's website showed today, Saturday, that the ministry had included on its wanted list Sergei Saveliev, who leaked videos believed to be of torture in a prison to a human rights organization.

The Gulago.net organization concerned with the rights of prisoners said that the videos provided to it by Saveliev show examples of torture and sexual assault in a prison in the Saratov region, about 700 kilometers southeast of Moscow.

Since (Gulago.net) began publishing the videos, five senior prison officials have been dismissed and a large number of investigations have been opened.

The database on the ministry's website did not mention the crime in which Saveliev, 31, from Belarus, is wanted.

In a video commentary published by (Gulago.net) on Saturday, Saveliev said he was not surprised by the action taken against him and that he is now in France.
